Paceman Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
