Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.” Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable. “Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.” NYPD released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims were reported. The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped. Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn. “The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking. “There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.” Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair. He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back. “He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.” Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
