Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup races. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Racing in the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a major knee surgery. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are highly promising. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning two decades. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings. This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
