The Brazilian attacker scored twice as Nottingham Forest rounded off the group stage of the Europa League with a convincing win against their Hungarian visitors at the home stadium.

Forest had previously guaranteed a berth in the next qualifying round and went into this fixture with a slim possibility of making the league's elite, even though they required several results to go their way.

That did not happen but this assured display will give the supporters belief that their team can navigate the home-and-away tie to advance to the round of sixteen.

A Ferencvaros midfielder struck the upright with a header inside the first 10 minutes for the visitors – who are managed by former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane – but it was all Forest from that point forward.

Forest opened the scoring in the 17th minute when a delivery from midfield was deflected in by the defender and added a second shortly after – the striker firing an effort in at the far post for his tenth strike of the campaign.

The forward's eleventh goal arrived soon after the restart when he made a perfectly-timed run to break clear of the backline and then place a shot beyond the shot-stopper.

The third strike ended Ferencvaros' hopes of making a comeback and instead the hosts scored again when the impressive James McAtee scored from a spot-kick after a foul by the hapless Otvos inside the penalty area on Dan Ndoye.

The Europa League qualifying round lottery takes place on Friday, 30 January (12:00 GMT), where Nottingham Forest could be drawn against either the Turkish side or Panathinaikos.

"It's more than the result, there was that atmosphere about it. I want these players to do well as a unit, the whole squad," said Forest boss Sean Dyche.

"This is another step, but it is a positive step."

Team Breakdown: Striker Shines as Recent Arrival Observes from Stands

Jesus has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest in European competition this term with six of his 11 goals coming in the tournament.

His brace also means he has got a trio of strikes in his previous two outings and the prospect of competition for his place in the forward line could be spurring him on.

Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca was last week signed on loan and he was watching this game from the stands.

That may well have been on Jesus' thoughts as he was outstanding against the opposition, producing two excellent goals and generally being a constant threat to the opposition backline with his speed and movement.

The forward was not the only one in impressing, with McAtee producing his best performance in a Nottingham Forest shirt since joining from Manchester City in the previous transfer window, while the Swiss international also performed well.

These encouraging performances will give the club some fresh hope as they turn their attention to increasing the gap from the bottom three when they welcome their London rivals on the weekend.

"All you can ask for is a reaction," added the manager.

"I have always trusted their commitment or their loyalty or honesty. It is just about displaying your quality.

"McAtee was very good and Dan Ndoye was super sharp. Jesus got another couple and these are positive indicators."
