Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed anger after the ex-president charged a group of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and stated they should be arrested and penalized "through capital punishment" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Recording That Sparked the Debate

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who previously acted in defense or defense positions.

"Similar to us, you all made an pledge to safeguard and uphold this constitution," the lawmakers declared in the brief video. "Currently, the dangers to our governing document aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject improper directives, you can reject unlawful commands, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to execute directives that break the statutes or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Reaction

The video message appeared to trigger a furious response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another message, he wrote: "This constitutes really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their comments cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials React

Following Trump's remarks on that day, House Democratic leader issued a combined declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Violent politics has no place in America," they wrote. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all served our country with tremendous patriotism and distinction. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky death threats against members of Congress, and urge House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with security officials "to ensure the safety of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these extreme online messages and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the statement stated.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also published a statement.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who care for this nation and made an pledge to protect and support the founding document of the United States," they stated. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No warning, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that fundamental duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president views it punishable by capital punishment for us to repeat the legal requirements," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the national charter and duty to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must unite and condemn the president's requests for our death and political violence. This is a moment for principled stance."

More Governmental Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and shared on social media: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is demanding the capital punishment of government members."

He continued: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This represents very harmful, you have leading members of Congress advising soldiers to defy commands, I think that's without precedent in US history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly stated to the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to parse the wording and establish all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when inquired by a media member, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the executive branch representative responded: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the president is addressing," the official declared. "There are sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to organize a recorded statement to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to defy the executive's lawful orders."

She stated: "The sanctity of our military relies on the command structure, and if that system is compromised, it can lead to people getting killed, it can result in confusion, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
